Someone's attacking a critical 0-day RCE in F5 BIG-IP APM
F5 has fixed a critical zero-day bug in its BIG-IP Access Policy Manager (APM) that unknown miscreants are exploiting to remotely execute malicious code. BIG-IP APM is a centralized access management and security proxy that allows users to connect to enterprise networks, applications, APIs, and cloud services via a single login. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-94127, is a heap-based buffer overflow that affects BIG-IP APM systems configured as an OAuth Authorization Server, with an access policy and OAuth profile on the same virtual server. It received a critical 9.3 CVSS v4.0 score - so patch now. “We have learned that this vulnerability has been exploited,” F5 said in a Tuesday security advisory. F5 did not immediately respond to our questions, including how many systems have been compromised, and whether criminals are abusing the vulnerability to deploy ransomware. Also on Tuesday, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) added CVE-2026-94127 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and gave federal agencies a Friday deadline to apply patches. This warning comes about a year after F5 and CISA warned “highly sophisticated nation-state" hackers broke into the vendor’s network and stole BIG-IP source code, zero-day vulnerability details, and customer configuration data belonging to some users. The attack posed an "imminent risk" to federal agencies, US cybersecurity officials said at the time. The US Justice Department allowed F5 to delay disclosing the intrusion after determining that delayed public disclosure was warranted. This only happens if public disclosure poses a substantial risk to national security or public safety. Neither the feds nor private researchers have publicly attributed the intrusion to a particular group or country, but a year earlier Google's Mandiant threat hunters linked exploitation of the critical F5 BIG-IP flaw CVE-2023-46747 to UNC5174, an access broker it assessed with moderate confidence as operating from China. The group attempted to sell access to US defense contractor appliances and UK government entities.®

NCSC-2026-0365 [1.01] [H/H] Kwetsbaarheden verholpen in Check Point VPN-producten

Cisco drops another exploited zero-day, this time a perfect 10
Cisco admins who have spent their week patching email gateways now face a perfect-10 Identity Services Engine flaw under active attack. Cisco disclosed CVE-2026-76460 on Wednesday, describing it as an authentication bypass affecting Identity Services Engine (ISE) and ISE Passive Identity Connector (ISE-PIC). Successful exploitation can give an unauthenticated remote attacker command execution with root privileges. Product Security Incident Response Team said it was aware of active exploitation and urged customers to install the fixes immediately. CISA has also added the vulnerability to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. The warning follows another actively exploited critical vulnerability disclosed days earlier, CVE-2026-76461, affecting its Secure Email Gateway and Secure Email and Web Manager appliances. That 9.8-rated bug could also lead to root access, prompting Cisco to warn admins that attackers may be able to cover their tracks after getting in. The latest problem lies in an API within Cisco ISE, the company's network access control platform. Cisco says insufficient authentication controls on an API endpoint mean an attacker can send a crafted request to bypass the product's web-based management interface. No credentials or user interaction are required, and Cisco says vulnerable versions of ISE and ISE-PIC are affected regardless of configuration. The flaw received the maximum CVSS score of 10.0. Cisco warned that root access could allow attackers to remove or conceal traces of an intrusion, complicating efforts to determine whether an appliance had been breached. Cisco advised admins to review ISE access logs for suspicious usernames on every node in a distributed deployment and to check network and firewall logs held outside the affected device for signs of unexpected uploads or downloads. If admins find evidence of possible exploitation, Cisco "strongly recommends" reimaging affected nodes and restoring their configurations from backup if necessary. No workaround exists, although Cisco said infrastructure access control lists can be used as a temporary mitigation to restrict management and control-plane traffic reaching affected systems. Permanent fixes are available in ISE and ISE-PIC 3.1 Patch 12, 3.2 Patch 11, 3.3 Patch 12, 3.4 Patch 7 and 3.5 Patch 4. ISE 3.0 has reached the end of software maintenance, so customers running it must migrate to a supported release. Cisco discovered CVE-2026-76460 while resolving a Technical Assistance Center support case, but has not disclosed who is exploiting it, how long the attacks have been underway, or what the intruders have done after gaining access. The advisory accompanied a substantial batch of other ISE vulnerabilities published Wednesday. Two other Cisco advisories carried maximum CVSS scores of 10.0, while a separate trio of remote code execution flaws scored as high as 9.9. For admins responsible for Cisco kit, September is shaping up to be quite the patching month. ®

Check Point, Kaspersky, Tanium Patch Product Vulnerabilities
Attackers exploited a previously unknown flaw in Check Point's Security Management Server in a handful of targeted attacks on July 23, the company said. The flaw, CVE-2026-93616, allows an attacker who can access the server's web service to run scripts on it without logging in. Check Point released a fix on September 22 for the server that controls firewall policies for the Check Point gateways it manages. Separately, Check Point said attackers have been trying since September 12 to exploit a VPN flaw it fixed on September 9. The attempts, against a flaw tracked as CVE-2026-85102, have targeted customers of Spark, Check Point's firewall line for small businesses. When the fix came out, Check Point had no evidence the flaw was being exploited. CVE-2026-93616 is a path traversal bug in the management server's web service. The service does not properly limit which files and folders a request can reach. An attacker can use it to upload scripts to the server and then run them. Check Point rated it 9.8 out of 10 on the CVSS scale in the CVE record for the flaw. Check Point's advisory does not name the targets of the July attacks or the attackers, nor does it say what the attackers did after exploiting the flaw. Management Server Versions and Fix Check Point numbers the Jumbo Hotfix updates for each release by "Take." Its LivePatch channel, which pushes urgent fixes, uses a separate set of take numbers. The CVE record lists these versions as affected: R82.20 with no Jumbo Hotfix installed R82.10 with Jumbo Hotfix Take 44 or below R82 with Jumbo Hotfix Take 126 or below R81.20 with Jumbo Hotfix Take 166 or below R81.10 with Jumbo Hotfix Take 190 or below (end of support) R81, R80.40, R80.30, R80.20, R80.10 and R80 (all end of support) Check Point's advisory lists R82.20 as affected without the "no Jumbo Hotfix" condition. On September 16, Check Point fixed a separate flaw in the management server, CVE-2026-91843, through LivePatch. That update was LivePatch Take 28, or Take 29 on R82.20, according to a summary of Check Point's advisory by France's CERT Santé. Check Point says those LivePatch takes do not fix CVE-2026-93616. CVE-2026-85103, a VPN certificate flaw that Check Point fixed on September 9, affected both gateways and management servers. On R82.10, R82, and R81.20, the new flaw's affected list goes one take higher than that flaw's. So a server updated only enough to be outside that September flaw's range is still affected by CVE-2026-93616. The fixed builds, and Check Point's guidance on mitigation, hunting and indicators of compromise, are in support article sk1000171. Administrators of management servers should: Check the server's release and Jumbo Hotfix take against the list above. Install the fix listed in sk1000171. Use the hunting guidance and indicators of compromise in sk1000171 to look for signs of an attack. Installing the fix does not show whether the server was attacked before. Check Point's advisory names only Security Management as affected and does not say what network access an attacker needs. The Hacker News has asked Check Point about other affected products, the fixed builds, and the July attacks. Spark Firewalls Targeted Through VPN Flaw CVE-2026-85102 is in the way Check Point gateways check certificates while a VPN connection is being set up. It may let an attacker who has not logged in run code on the gateway. Fixes have been out since September 9 and are in support article sk1000117. The affected products are Security Gateway and Spark firewalls, whether centrally or locally managed, on R81 and R81.10 (both end of support), R81.10.x, R81.20, R82, R82.00.x and R82.10. The Netherlands' National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) says the flaw applies when these products use Site-to-Site VPN or Remote Access VPN. Check Point said the attempts came from anonymizing infrastructure, including VPN services and proxies, and used certificates with these subjects: Certificate subject: CN=vpn,OU=users,O=global Certificate subject: CN=vpn-user,OU=users,O=global Certificate subject: CN=vpnuser,OU=users,O=global The list is not complete, and other subjects may be in use. Administrators should check logs for any unusual certificate-based Mobile Access login, not only those with these subjects. They should also check what suspicious Mobile Access users do after logging in, which often includes scanning internal ports and services. Check Point says customers who installed the September 9 fix are protected, but its advisory does not say whether any attempt succeeded. For gateways that cannot be patched yet, the NCSC lists a Check Point workaround for Site-to-Site VPN: turn off the implied VPN rules and allow UDP ports 500 and 4500 only from specific peer IP addresses. The workaround does not apply to locally managed Spark firewalls. Mitigation steps from Check Point are in sk1000117.

Cisco patches actively exploited email gateway zero-day (CVE-2026-76461)
Criminals are exploiting a critical Cisco Secure Email Gateway flaw that can turn a malicious email into root access. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-76461, carries a 9.8 CVSS score and affects physical and virtual Secure Email Gateway appliances regardless of their configuration. Cisco says there are no workarounds, so patching is the only fix. The bug lies in how Cisco's AsyncOS software handles incoming email. An attacker doesn't need to log in: they can send a booby-trapped message through a vulnerable gateway and, if the exploit works, run commands as root. Which is not exactly what you want from the box tasked with keeping nasty emails out. Cisco's Product Security Incident Response Team said it became aware of active exploitation in September, although the networking giant hasn't said who is behind the attacks, how long they have been going on, or how many organizations have been compromised. Cisco uncovered the bug while resolving a Technical Assistance Center support case. Signs suggest at least some Cisco cloud customers were caught up in the attacks. Cisco said it investigated devices belonging to its Secure Email Cloud service and directly contacted customers whose appliances showed indicators of possible compromise. It is now carrying out remediation and recovery work and says all of its Secure Email Cloud devices have been upgraded to AsyncOS 16.5.0-780. Admins running their own appliances have a little more work to do. Cisco recommends checking logs for signs of suspicious activity, but warns that finding nothing doesn't necessarily mean the system is clean. Once attackers have root access, Cisco says they could tamper with the logs and cover their tracks. Admins are also being told to check network and firewall logs for anything unusual, rather than relying on the gateway itself for answers. For virtual appliances suspected of being compromised, Cisco's recovery advice is fairly drastic: preserve the forensic evidence, deploy a fresh VM running fixed software, rebuild the configuration, and rotate credentials and cryptographic material. Cisco has fixed the bug in AsyncOS releases 15.5.5-014, 16.0.4-302 and 16.5.0-780, with customers strongly encouraged to move to the latter. There's still a decent-sized target pool out there. The Shadowserver Foundation was tracking more than 400 Cisco Secure Email Gateway appliances exposed to the internet as of Monday The flaw has also landed in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, with US federal civilian agencies ordered to remediate it by September 17. CVE-2026-76461 comes less than a year after attackers exploited another critical AsyncOS flaw, CVE-2025-20393, to break into Cisco Secure Email Gateway appliances and install persistence mechanisms. That bug eventually scored a perfect 10. For anyone still running an affected gateway, the message is fairly simple: the box designed to inspect hostile email can itself be pwned by one; attackers are already doing it, and there is no workaround to hide behind. ®
